NTRU Announces AeroLink, First Complete Security System for Wireless Consumer Electronics and Commercial Appliances

NTRU's Small, Fast, Powerful Cryptosystem is First Security Solution for Wirelessly Networked Devices; First Implementation of IEEE Security Standards for Personal Area Networks

Burlington, Mass. - March 31, 2003 - NTRU, the embedded security experts, today announced NTRU Aerolink, the first complete security system for wirelessly networked consumer electronics and industrial or commercial appliances. NTRU Aerolink is the first product to conform to the draft IEEE 802.15.3 and 802.15.4 Wireless Personal Area Networking standards. The 802 15.3 standard, for high throughput applications, specifies how home and business appliances and devices such as DVD players, computers, TVs and digital cameras will wirelessly communicate with each other. The 802 15.4 standard, for low power low bandwidth environments, details how home security systems, lighting and HVAC, medical monitoring systems, access control system components such as RFID / Contactless readers and door locks, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and other electronic devices will wirelessly communicate with each other.

Until now, it has been impossible to efficiently deploy powerful security in wirelessly networked consumer devices due to their inherent speed and bandwidth constraints. NTRU Aerolink, the smallest and fastest public key-based wireless security product in the world, provides encrypted data transfer and user authentication that overcomes these traditional constraints. NTRU's energy-efficient security enables, for the first time, the development and deployment of secured wireless consumer and industrial devices.

Wireless PANs eliminate the complexity of wiring home entertainment system components together and drastically reduces expenses associated with installation and wiring of devices and appliances like lighting and smoke detectors. With adequate security, it will be possible for consumers to protect the information transmitted between devices and will allow secure access control.
