NTRU Announces Neo for Java: First Universal Wireless Java Security System

Fastest and Smallest Security System Designed for All Wireless Java Devices and Applications

Burlington, Mass. - June 24, 2002 - NTRU, the only provider of strong security that fits everywhere, today announced the release of NTRU Neo for Java, the first security system designed for all wireless Java devices and applications. Up until now, it has not been possible to deploy wireless Java security in mass-market mobile devices primarily due to size and speed constraints. NTRU Neo for Java, the smallest and fastest public key-based Java security product in the world, provides encrypted data transfer and user authentication services that overcome these traditional constraints. NTRU Neo for Java is the most efficient security system; it is less than 5KB in size and more than 100 times faster than legacy Java security solutions. The major handset manufacturers have announced plans to include Java in every wireless phone; NTRU's powerful security enables development and deployment of secured wireless applications and services for the hundreds of millions of Java-equipped handsets that will ship in the next two years.

"Tao Group's intent is to achieve the world's fastest Java-compliant implementations," said Francis Charig, executive chairman of the Tao Group. "NTRU Neo for Java is the ideal complement, bringing strong, fast and small security to our platform. The combination brings a complete range of functionality to embedded Java application developers."

According to Cahners In-Stat/MDR, it is predicted that the wireless Java market will grow at a rate of over eighty percent a year through 2005. Before the introduction of NTRU Neo for Java, only high-end wireless devices could provide robust Java security services. NTRU overcomes the fundamental limitations preventing deployment of secure Java applications to mid and low-end phones, substantially increasing the market Java application developers can address. NTRU Neo for Java provides security uniquely suited for the space- and performance-constrained wireless Java environment. NTRU Neo for Java allows developers to:

  • Build secure applications that run on all wireless devices, even low cost mass-market phones.
  • Substantially increase the speed and responsiveness of Java applications, making them more compelling to users.
  • Increase speed and reduce bandwidth consumption for code downloads.
"With its new Neo for Java offering, NTRU addresses two of the most important requirements for mass adoption of wireless applications and services --strong security and platform portability," said Warren Wilson, Wireless Practice director at Boston-based Summit Strategies. "Java - specifically J2ME -- is rapidly becoming the de facto platform for mobile and wireless devices from smart phones to PDAs, and NTRU's high-performance, small-footprint encryption technology is well-suited to protect even the most sensitive information on these resource-constrained devices. Wireless carriers, device makers and application developers will all appreciate this combination of capabilities."

Traditionally, security has been one of the most processor-intensive procedures for wireless devices. Performance is further degraded when running inside a Java virtual machine; legacy security systems operate so slowly on mid-range and low-end phones that they are impractical for most uses. NTRU Neo for Java eliminates the performance and size constraints typically associated with Java applications and platforms. Additionally, NTRU Neo for Java secures applications that access payment, financial, medical or other corporate or personal data.

"The inherent qualities of NTRU technology - its strength, small size and incredible speed - make it a natural complement to the wireless Java environment," said Scott Crenshaw, CEO at NTRU. "NTRU is the first to address and solve the challenges of performance, footprint limitations and efficiency that Java professionals encounter every day. NTRU will expand the market for next-generation wireless applications and services being developed today."

NTRU Neo for Java Features and Benefits

NTRU Neo for Java is optimized for a complete range of devices from low-end mobile phones to high-end smart phones. The developer tool kit includes Neo for Java, the standard version, and Neo for JavaKE (kilobyte edition), a smaller version designed specifically for space-constrained environments. NTRU Neo for Java supports J2ME and Java virtual machines.

Higher security - For the first time, NTRU Neo for Java brings strong public key security to the wireless Java markets, delivering enhanced fraud protection.

Faster performance - NTRU Neo for Java operates faster than any security system available, requires minimal processing power, and downloads in less time than alternatives.

Fast time to market - NTRU Neo for Java provides simple, easy to use APIs, which makes it quick and easy for application developers, platform providers, carriers and systems integrators to include strong security in their wireless Java products and services.

Availability

NTRU Neo for Java is available immediately.
