NTRU Joins the Smart Card Alliance

Next-generation encryption provider joins forces with industry leaders to drive the adoption of secure, multi-application smart card technology

Burlington, MA - May 6, 2002 - NTRU, the only provider of strong security that fits everywhere, today announced that the company has joined the Smart Card Alliance, a not-for-profit, multi-industry organization committed to driving the widespread adoption of multi-application smart card technology. NTRU develops powerful, fast security that, due to its small footprint, is uniquely suited to secure space-constrained environments such as contactless smart cards, radio frequency identification (RFID) tags and wireless devices. NTRU joins members from the banking, financial services, computer, telecommunications, technology, healthcare, retail and entertainment industries, as well as a number of government associations, in the shared vision of enabling an interoperable platform for the delivery of next-generation products and services based on smart card technology.

"Strong security is necessary for enabling the widespread adoption of contactless smart card applications. Consumers require strong security that operates in a user-friendly manner, enabling trusted devices for confidential communications," stated Jon Karlen, RFID and smart card General Manager general manager, RFID and Smart Cards for NTRUfor NTRU. "NTRU is committed to providing very small, very fast and very powerful security to enable the mass-market acceptance of secure smart card applications. We look forward to working with the Smart Card Alliance to further this goal."

NTRU's public key security operates hundreds of times faster than legacy systems while requiring only a fraction of the footprint and substantially less power. The size and speed advantages of NTRU's next-generation public key security allow it to operate under the very constrained size and power consumption requirements demanded by contactless smart cards, RFID and contactless devices. NTRU enables contactless application vendors and developers to add powerful security to their solutions without compromising cost or performance. NTRU's GenuID product enables manufacturers to tap new markets, customers and revenue opportunities.

"I am pleased to have NTRU as a member," says Randy Vanderhoof, Acting President and CEO of the Smart Card Alliance. "They bring value-added security technology to our industry with benefits for a diverse mix of applications common to many of our other members."

The Smart Card Alliance was developed to stimulate the understanding, adoption, use and widespread acceptance of single and multi-application smart card technology through specific projects such as educational programs, market research, advocacy, industry relations and by bringing together, in an open forum, leading users and technologists from both public and private sectors.
