NTRU and Atmel to Highlight Secure RFID Solutions at 2002 RSA Conference

NTRU RFID Security Pavilion to Showcase the Future of Secure RFID Technologies

Burlington, Mass. - February 12, 2002 - NTRU, the only provider of strong security that fits everywhere, today announced that Atmel® Corporation (NASDAQ: ATML), will join the NTRU RFID Security Pavilion, booth #521, at the 2002 RSA Conference in San Jose, February 18-22. Atmel and NTRU will demonstrate their mutual support for secure radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.

NTRU delivers high-speed, small footprint security, making it easy for companies like Atmel to offer chips that enable extremely secure RFID applications. Atmel Corporation is a worldwide leader in the design, manufacturing and marketing of advanced semiconductors, including advanced logic, nonvolatile memory, mixed signal and RF integrated circuits. Atmel has been developing innovative RFID products for more than 20 years.

"Until now, public key security has been too big, too power-hungry and too cost-prohibitive for RFID chip manufacturers," said Scott Crenshaw, CEO of NTRU. "NTRU delivers a scalable, extensible security solution that enables companies like Atmel to re-invent the pricing dynamics of their industry, allowing them to enter new markets."

RFID is a technology that uses radio waves to transfer data between a reader and a movable item in order to identify, track or locate that item. RFID devices are increasingly being used across industries such as airline, automotive, and public transit, the applications that will drive widespread adoption. The NTRU public key cryptography system is the only solution with the ability to deliver strong, efficient security to RFID applications and products. The size and speed advantages of NTRU security allow it to operate within the strict size, power, and performance constraints of the RFID market.

"RFID chips increasingly require advanced security," said Bruce DelPorte, Atmel's marketing manager for RF products. "The availability of cost-effective, public key security marks a huge step forward in RFID and has the potential to unlock new markets-such as access control, fueling, transit, and payments-that require trusted devices and secure communications. Atmel's AT90SC0802 is the perfect silicon solution for NTRU's high security applications and will allow the first true single chip, high security, ISO14443B/ISO7816 smart card platform."
