NTRU Announces Support For AES Symmetric Cipher

Rijndael Available Now in NTRU Software Toolkit

Burlington, Mass., October 2, 2000 -- NTRU, a leader in security solutions for wireless communications and content protection, announced that its NTRU Embedded Reference Implementation Software Toolkit implements the Rijndael symmetric cipher, which today was selected as the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

"NTRU delivers the smallest and fastest security technology for wireless, media and consumer applications," said Scott Crenshaw, CEO of NTRU. "We selected the Rijndael cipher long ago as an excellent complement to our core public key technology, and are pleased with its selection for the AES standard. We expect our competitors will eventually offer this technology, which has been available in NTRU’s toolkits for some time."

The NTRU Embedded Reference Implementation is a very low-footprint, high performance toolkit, which brings the advantages of secure public key and symmetric key cryptography to software and hardware developers. It operates at high speeds in constrained environments, including devices with very limited memory and processing capacity, while enabling new levels of scalability for server applications.

According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Rijndael was selected due to its combination of security, performance, efficiency, ease of implementation and flexibility. Further details on the Rijndael cipher and AES are available at the NIST web site, www.nist.gov.
